The Austrian Television Fund (FERNSEHFONDS AUSTRIA) supported the film adaptation of the bestseller “Das Vermächtnis der Wanderhure”

The Austrian Television Fund (FERNSEHFONDS AUSTRIA) supported the screen adaptation of the third part of the historical “Wanderhure” novel series “Das Vermächtnis der Wanderhure” with the amount of EUR 680,000, which equals roughly 12% of overall production costs. The film, a coproduction of Aichholzer Filmproduktion GmbH, TV60 Filmproduktion GmbH, Wilma Film s.r.o., the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and Sat.1, premiered on Tuesday, 13 November 2012, on ORF eins and Sat.1, at 8.15 pm respectively.

Historical drama filmed at the Seebenstein Castle

The third part of the novel series’ film adaptation “Das Vermächtnis der Wanderhure” with Alexandra Neldel in the leading role is the moving story of the former travelling whore Marie. The historical drama is set at the beginning of the 15^th century and was shot, among other places, at the Seebenstein Castle in Lower Austria.
The former travelling prostitute Marie expects her second child when her husband Michel is dubbed a knight by the king. Michel’s oath of allegiance obliges him to follow the king to the impending war against the Tatars. Despite the oncoming birth, Michel leaves Marie, burdened with a heavy conscience.
Meanwhile, the king’s power-hungry mistress, Hulda, hatches a devilish plot: she kidnaps Marie and takes her new-born son, presenting him to the king as her own child and hence as the rightful heir to the throne. Moreover, Hulda has formed an alliance with the enemy. With the help of the Tatar prince’s foster-son, she plans to overthrow the king and to reign as the king’s mother. Marie’s only way of seeing her son again is by winning the grace of her enemies.

Almost EUR 2 million of funding for film adaptation of the novel series

The film version of the first part “Die Wanderhure” was supported by the Austrian Television Fund (FERNSEHFONDS AUSTRIA) with a grant of EUR 600,000. The second part “Die Rache der Wanderhure” was supported with EUR 700,000. The fund thus provided a total of almost EUR 2 million for the screen adaptation of the novel series.
