The European Union has made the development of broadband infrastructure in Europe one of its key technological objectives. The 5G Action Plan of the European Commission is an expression of this initiative and is reflected in the national expansion plans of the EU member states.
Austria
The expansion of modern communication infrastructures is in the public interest. This is reflected by the government declaration of the Austrian federal government from 2020 with a clear commitment to a forced rollout of 5G in the chapter on digitization and innovation. The strategy aims to ensure nationwide, technology-neutral broadband coverage throughout Austria by further expanding the 5G pioneering role and promoting applications for new technologies together with telecom operators.
