On August 27, 1997, Austria's third mobile network operator, Connect (later known as One, subsequently as Orange, now Hutchison Drei) was granted a GSM 1800 frequency license encompassing2 x 16.8 MHz (84 GSM channels) for a fee of EUR 167,147,519 (ATS 2.3 billion). The license was issued for a limited period (until December 31, 2017). The frequencies were allocated by the Federal Ministry of Science and Transport (GZ 101059/IV-JD/97). The operator has been offering its services on the GSM network since October 1998.
